Healthy Auckland Together visits Waitākere

Late last week, team members from Healthy Auckland Together – a coalition of 20+ organisations working city-wide on food environments, active travel, and play – visited our Waitākere office.

Sean Selby, Senior Health Promotion Advisor, and Michael Hale, Public Health Medicine Specialist, both from the National Public Health Service, walked us through how Healthy Auckland Together has shifted since COVID-19 — moving into a backbone role for its members, while holding its focus steady on food environments, active travel, and play.

The alignment with the Healthy Families NZ movement was clear. Our team took the visitors through some of the mahi currently underway here in Waitākere.

Healthy Families Waitākere Manager Darna Appleyard (Ngāti Pāoa):

“The changes that make the biggest difference to people’s lives happen when organisations working at every level of the system are pulling in the same direction. Having the Healthy Auckland Together team here in Waitākere, hearing directly how our work sits alongside theirs, is where that starts.”

With focus groups already underway across our priority areas, Healthy Families Waitākere is looking at where the two kaupapa can work together.
