Mike Tipene appointed as Manager for Healthy Families Waitākere

Sport Waitākere is delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Tipene (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa) to the role of Healthy Families Waitākere Manager. No stranger to the Healthy Families movement, Tipene moves from his former role as Rautaki Māori, bringing his distinct mātauranga (knowledge) and experience to the management role.

His appointment follows the recent departure of Kerry Allan, who held the role of Manager of Healthy Families Waitākere since 2015.

Raised in Avondale, Tipene has a proven track record in developing initiatives steeped in mātauranga Māori.

“I’m privileged to step up to this role and continue the passionate leadership and strong collaborative community focus cemented by Kerry over her long tenure. I look forward to leading the talented Healthy Families Waitākere team in their kaupapa committed to the championing of community-led change and driving equitable outcomes to ensure everyone in West Auckland can lead healthy and happy lives.”

Sport Waitākere CEO David George is thrilled with the new appointment and looks forward to what this new chapter will bring to the Healthy Families Waitākere team.

“In recent years, we have watched the Healthy Families Waitākere movement go from strength to strength, and Mike has been integral part of this growth. Being grounded in te ao Māori, we’re excited to see Mike’s proven leadership approaches elevated to senior management, further reinforcing our commitment to Māori leadership at all levels.”

Tipene’s new appointment takes effect from 8 January 2024.
