Healthy Families Waitākere team members Catherine Powell and Repeka George-Koteka were thrilled to take part in the presentation series from Child Rich Communities Tāmaki Makaurau Hui: Uplifting the mana of tamariki, rangatahi and whānau with community-led development.
Presenting Tāfesilafa’i, the team explored how the initiative approaches re-indigenising the education system, so tamariki in the Aoga Amata (Samoan ECEs) feel celebrated and valued for who they are as cultural beings.
Child Rich Communities had also approached the presentations as a space for people to connect and learn from one another. This was one of the highlights for Powell and Koteka, as prioritising the time for whakawhanaungatanga enabled the team to learn about other people’s work and where Tāfesilafa’i might intersect with other initiatives in the future.
